Issue 1

A common misunderstanding that outsiders have about my craft is that Alchemists like me work to bring more chaos into the world. While it is true, that the art we practice is without order, and can be a messy process, we truly want to bring about the ultimate freedom, change. Change is at the heart of all of life. Where would we be, if everything always stayed the same? Stuck in time, without any advancement. It’s true, that change begets destruction, but that destruction is what allows for growth. All that exists must eventually fall, all who live must eventually die. This is a simple fact of our world, and yet some refuse to face it. We Alchemists choose to embrace this, to honor the inevitable, and to perhaps even use it in our favor. Change, for as much as it destroys, also allows us to build the wonderful works we do in Alchemy. It allows us to use the old to create the new. The combination of different metals together is what created steel, one of the most reliable and widely used metal in the world. We perform a similar act when we create Feverium and Cold Steel. Through a combination of bronze, glowing coals, and the power inherent to the Amorphic Plane, we can create a metal that burns to the touch, naturally producing heat. While this metal sees a lot of use in warfare, its also very practical as a heat source for homes in the winter, as well as for applications like smelting, cooking, glass making, and other processes that need heat. Engineers in the Technocracy of San Francisco, with the help of several Alchemists, were able to construct a train engine that uses Feverium as its natural heat source. While Feverium eventually looses its heat, as all things are destined to do, the remaining bronze can be reused in the same Alchemical Reaction to imbue the internal fire it used to have. Cold Steel, on the other hand, has the opposite property. It is created through the combination of traditional steel and ice crystals, in a very similar process. Its applications range from air conditioning and refrigeration to firefighting. These creations, alongside others, have provided enormous value to society as a whole, and have allowed for new innovations. Without the power that we Alchemists wield, these things could not have come into being. New discoveries are being made every day by myself and my colleagues, and we are eager to share our new knowledge with the world, so that we may better society.
